This position is responsible for managing relationship with,
operations at, and performance of a portfolio of Contract
Manufacturers (CMs) accountable with full P&L responsibility
for over $50 million of external spend. This position works closely
with other Operations Leaders, Supply Chain Planners, Customers at
Business Units and Markets with global responsibility for cost,
quality and supply of assigned contractor base.
The Operations Leader develops and manages implementation of the
strategy and tactical execution to secure timely supply of product
and achieve cost targets as well as all other targets of the
External Supply Hospital Business Unit (ES Ops HSP) Balanced
Scorecard. He/she also strongly contributes to the development and
execution of the overall ES Ops HSP Virtual Site strategy for CM
portfolio development and cost reduction.
Implementing short-term tactic,s as well as long-term
strategies, with the CMs, ensuring that every CM contributes to
achieving the ES Ops HSP BSC targets and strategic objectives.
Lead Virtual Site Operations Teams (VSOTs) and matrix manage all
members of the VSOT, including but not limited to ESQ managers,
PPLs, BSLs, supply chain planners, procurement managers and GTS
project leads. The Operations Manager is accountable for the
results of the VSOT. The activities and responsibilities of the
VSOT include: Manage global stakeholders including but not limited
to Product Portfolio Leaders, Brand Supply leaders and Commercial
and PGS leadership
Have P&L responsibility for selected portfolio including
direct accountability for contract negotiations and external
relationship management at CEO level with the contractor base
Development and execution of manufacturing and supply plans and
meet market demand for product and meet or exceed supply
Act as a “Change Control Committee” for relevant changes.
Development and execution of tactical plans for continuous
improvement of CM shop floor performance in the areas of product
quality, environmental health and safety, compliance, customer
service and product cost.
Review of the status of deviations which impact or may affect
product supply. The Operations Manager is responsible to secure
correct and timely closing of relevant deviations, and when
necessary, lead closure of investigations that have not been
properly addressed by the CM.
Oversee and secure timely execution of new product introduction,
product changes (including changes of materials and API), product
enhancement, and product transfer programs. Lead implementation
teams where required.
Secure that product supply, quality, compliance and cost issues
are adequately addressed by making extensive use of Operational
Excellence tools and mobilizing the necessary resources for support
in all required areas. Lead these cross-functional teams where
Collaborate with EH&S to ensure CM compliance with
environmental, health and safety regulations and Pfizer
Secure effective communication of key product supply issues to
stakeholders – this includes correct and timely updating the
bi-weekly “Run The Business” and “Hot Topics” reports.
Partner with ESQ to ensure CMs comply with regulatory
requirements, cGMP’s, Pfizer Quality Standards and Standard
Manage the cost reduction program: Identify cost reduction
opportunities with CMs
Validate the financial impact and secure the opportunities are
captured and reported in the Long Range Plan and the Operational
Oversee execution and implementation, lead the team for
execution as appropriate
Meet or exceed annual budget cost reduction target
Maintain awareness of potential new sourcing opportunities and
identify strategic sourcing partners for the
manufacture/packaging/testing of pharmaceutical products who share
common vision/values with PGS.
Secure compliance with Legal Requirements of the “Foreign
Corruption Policy Act” (FCPA”) and related other legislation as
directed by the relevant Pfizer Corporate Policies. The Operations
Manager is accountable for appropriate documentation of compliance
with all requirements.
Lead assigned project and initiatives for his/her portfolio of
contractors including but not limited to: Serialization
Business Continuity Plans
Supplier Network Collaboration
20 - 25% travel required (primarily domestic US with some
Bachelor degree in Economics, Trade, Engineering, Science,
Management) or other relevant field required.
9 years pharmaceutical industry experience required.
Candidate must demonstrate a breadth of diverse leadership
experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence
and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and
guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes
and create business impact.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including a
demonstrated ability to lead and participate in teams at all levels
of management required.
