The Process Automation R&D Lake Forest Research Center group in Schneider Electric develops Triconex safety and critical control systems, which provide high-value solutions for critical control and safety applications. Triconex products are based on patented Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) industrial safety-shutdown technology ( Triconex is the largest TMR supplier in the world. For 30 years, Triconex solutions have been helping organizations manage risk and hazards and avoid unscheduled asset downtime and maximize process uptime. We are seeking an electrical/component engineer who is self- motivated, creative, innovative and has a strong passion for design engineering and providing on-going support to manufacturing. The candidate will be responsible for supporting current and new HW design, assisting in component selection and sustaining of our Triconex safety products, in a multi-site, cross-platform development environment. This includes providing solutions to technical issues, and ensuring the delivered solutions meet the technical specifications and design requirements. In addition, the candidate may also provide technical support to development work performed by third-party service providers or outsource partners. The responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Analyzing daily change notices of end-of-life component parts Replacing obsolete parts with new parts Aiding supply-chain and manufacturing in obtaining new and critical parts Preparing Engineering Change Requests, Manufacturing Change Requests or Deviations to obtain old parts to support production Resolving technical problems Analyzing part failure; request part failure analysis reports from vendors Supporting design engineers in finding, selecting and documenting new components. Supporting design engineers in finding, selecting and replacing obsolete parts with new parts Generating wiring diagrams to back up and analyze component selection. Review hardware drawings Writing Calculating Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and MTBF's Executing verification tests. Executing Document tests and generating CIA's (Change Impact Analysis) to explain change etc. Understanding the hardware architecture of the products Company interface to component/parts suppliers and test and service suppliers. Providing support to HW development work performed by outsource partners Coming up with innovative ideas to improve HW products and the HW development process Working in a diverse team environment, as well as independently Qualifications We know skills and competencies show up in many different ways and can be based on your life experience. If you do not necessarily meet all the requirements that are listed, we still encourage you to apply for the position. Requirements B.S. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 8 years of component engineering Minimum 6 years of HW design experience in the following areas: industrial controls, aerospace, communications, or medical devices, etc. Excellent diagnostic, debug, and troubleshooting skills, using standard lab/bench equipment. Experienced in product development with knowledge of Design for Test, Design for Manufacturability, environmental, EMI/EMC, and qualification testing for new products. Experienced in formal HW development process. Experienced with working with off-shoring partners, outsource partners, or other third-party partners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self starter, team player, multi-tasking with good time management skills and the ability to function across organizational boundaries. Nice To Have: Experienced in design of high reliability, safety, redundant fail-safe products is a strong plus. Experienced with development using lean agile methodology. Experienced with industry standards (IEC 61508, IEEE 1012, Mil-Std, etc.).
